Please join us for an inspirational night of STEM as three keynote speakers share their professions in STEM fields and explain how their work impacts the world around us.

All LASD students and parents are invited.

Deborah HersmanDeborah Hersman. Chief Safety Officer at Waymo, a self-driving technology company with a mission to make it safe and easy for people and things to move around. As CSO, Deborah is responsible for field and systems safety across our extensive testing and development program. She oversees the design and enhancement of our product safety program, working closely with Waymo’s engineering, product, and legal teams.
 
Prior to Waymo, Deborah was the CEO and President of the National Safety Council from 2014-2019 and served as chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board from 2009-2014. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and international studies from Virginia Tech and a master of science degree in conflict analysis and resolution from George Mason University.



Shiwani BlackShiwani Black. Product Manager at Intuitive Surgical, a company focused on providing minimally invasive surgical platforms and future diagnostic tools to help solve complex healthcare challenges around the world. In her role as a Product Manager for stapler devices used on surgical robotic systems, Shiwani develops business plans and strategies for new products and leads cross-functional teams from idea concept to launch of a new product.

Prior to Intuitive, Shiwani worked for Bard Access System as a R&D engineer focused on developing innovative cardiovascular devices for global markets. During this time, she concurrently pursed and obtained an MBA degree from the University of Utah. Prior to Bard Access System, she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Bio-Medical Engineering.



Kyle Vaidyanathan
Kyle Vaidyanathan. Software Engineer at Unity Technologies, a development platform for games and other real-time applications. The mission of Unity is to empower developers to build and operate amazing content for video games, film/television, and AEC (architecture, engineering, construction). Kyle is part of the Unity Labs team, focusing on advanced product development for emerging technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality. He is currently building tools that enable developers to build and test applications that react to the real world. 

Prior to working at Unity, Kyle studied Computer Science and Games at the University of Southern California. He worked on multiple video games as a programmer, artist, and game designer. Kyle graduated from Egan in 2008.
