LASD Community Festival on May 7, 2023

The Los Altos School District (LASD) and the Los Altos Educational Foundation (LAEF) are partnering to host the LASD Community Festival to celebrate our nine outstanding neighborhood schools, all of which have received CA Distinguished School awards, and to thank the community for 40 years of support through LAEF.

“We look forward to celebrating our excellent public schools with the community at the festival. It’s been 10 years since we had a community event, and I hope to see everyone there,” said LASD Superintendent Sandra McGonagle.

Date and location: Sunday, May 7, 4 - 7 pm on the Covington school blacktop and play area.

Everyone is welcome – LASD families, incoming families, LASD personnel and trustees, former LAEF and LASD board members, neighbors, and the community.

There will be food trucks with food for purchase, games, activities, and fun galore for everyone!

LASD and LAEF have been partners for over 40 years. LAEF raises funds to sustain and enrich LASD’s excellent educational program beyond what public funding provides. LAEF also works closely with each school’s PTA to bridge the funding gap and ensure a superior education for all children at their individual campuses.

Since its founding in 1982, LAEF has raised over $56M in support of LASD. LAEF funding provides essential teachers and staff for STEM, Wellness, Literacy, and the Arts. Each year, LAEF continues to raise money to keep our schools strong.

Parents and the community have supported LAEF over the past 40 years in a variety of ways. For example, they’ve volunteered on the LAEF Board, which is comprised of representatives from all nine LASD schools, participated in LAEF’s annual Phonathon fundraiser, given generously as LAEF Leadership Circle members, and joined the Honor Roll of Realty.

“Our first grant to the district was for $61K to fund maps and globes. This year, we’ll provide a $2.5M grant. We’re thankful for our incredible group of supporters – parents, grandparents, LASD alumni, community members, and local businesses – for investing in our outstanding schools by supporting LAEF,”  said LAEF Executive Director Heather Macdonald.
