STEM Buckets

The goal of LASD's STEM program is to build disciplinary knowledge and skills, including science, technology, engineering, and math.

LASD STEM program is now fully integrated into everyday classroom experiences and is primarily funded by the school district.

How has LASD’s STEM program evolved over the years?

LASD’s STEM program has evolved to better integrate STEM learning into everyday classroom experiences. Embedding STEM concepts into the core curriculum enhances students' understanding and application of these skills. LASD’s program now includes STEM integration in classrooms, schoolwide events, activities, and makerspaces. LASD also offers an award-winning computer science program starting in TK and provides students with hands-on experience in robotics throughout their time in LASD.

Why doesn't my elementary school have a STEM teacher anymore?

With LASD’s shift toward integrating STEM into the classroom, there aren’t dedicated STEM teachers at every elementary school. Instead, classroom teachers incorporate STEM concepts into their daily instruction, ensuring that students engage with STEM learning in a more seamless and meaningful way. Additionally, schoolwide events and activities, as well as specialized programs like computer science and robotics, continue to enrich our students' STEM education.
