Arts
LASD arts programs develop students’ creativity through engaging opportunities to explore, make, and perform.
LASD teachers provide opportunities throughout the school year for students to develop skills in the arts. Students express themselves, through the visual and performing arts, developing creativity and appreciation for the arts.
The LASD Art Docent Program provides training and support for community members who volunteer to come into the classroom and teach skills in a variety of media. This program nurtures creativity and curiosity while teaching a range of technical skills. The program provides 800 classroom art lessons at all LASD elementary schools.
The talented team of LASD elementary music teachers provides music lessons to students in grades 4-8. Beginning with an exploratory class in 4th grade, students can pursue instrumental and voice pathways.
LAEF supports LASD’s Arts program by providing funding for the Art Docent Program, the elementary music program, and junior high music and art electives.
